NATE MARSHALL is from the South Side of Chicago. He was editor of groundbreaking anthology, The BreakBeat Poets: New American Poetry in the Age of Hip-Hop. His poetry collection, Wild Hundreds has been honored with the Black Caucus of the American Library Association’s award for Poetry Book of the Year and nominated for an NAACP Image Award. His last rap album, Grown came out in 2015 with his group Daily Lyrical Product. His work often focuses on education, empowerment, combatting violence, social justice, and his Chicago upbringing.

He completed a B.A. in English and African American Diaspora Studies at Vanderbilt University and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing at The University of Michigan’s Helen Zell Writers’ Program.  Nate has received fellowships from Cave Canem, The Poetry Foundation, and The University of Michigan. He is the National Program Director of Young Chicago Authors, Louder Than A Bomb Youth Poetry Festival and is a Visiting Assistant Professor at Wabash College.

This handmade pennant is hand made from 100% cotton canvas, machine stitched seaming on all sides with corresponding thread. Letters are black cut felt, affixed with heat. Hang string is black twill tape with hand knotted loops that go on a oak hang stick.
